Description

Since I thoroughly enjoyed making up some calligraphy pieces in baybayin, I ended up making this one.

Baybayin is the ancient Filipino way of writing. It is derived from the word 'baybay' which means to pronounce syllabically. It is often mistaken as alibata, which is unfortunately very wrong since alibata means 'alphabetize'. The baybayin script works by syllables and is used only on Filipino words. So if someone literally writes baybayin script in English or any other language, it's wrong. It just doesn't work that way. Another way of looking at it is how the Japanese almost always never use the Hiragana script for english words. The same could be said for Kanji. The only way they write English words is in Katakana which is an entirely different script and, even then, is still syllabical not alphabetical.

Sinta is a common term of endearment in the older times. It means 'loved' or 'beloved'. Sometimes it is used in a similar way people use 'honey' or 'dear'. In regional dialects, sinta is similar to 'Palangga' (The one I care for). My mom calls us her 'langga' and she still does until today. I think these words are fascinating words of endearment and it would be lovely to see it still used in the years to come.
